The Tupler Technique®: Why We Use It

The Tupler Technique® is the only research-based exercise program proven to effectively treat a Diastasis Recti.

The Tupler Technique

It is a 4 step program. To achieve the best results you must do all 4 steps of the program:

1) The Tupler Technique® exercises

2) Splinting the separated muscles

3) Strengthening and learning how to use the transverse muscle

4) Ensuring good posture and alignment including moving correctly.

The goal of the Tupler Technique® is to heal the weakened connective tissue that joins your outermost abdominal muscles. As the connective tissue becomes stronger and shallower the muscles gradually come together.

Healing connective tissue is all about both “positioning” and “protecting” the weakened tissue.

POSITIONING

Wearing a Diastasis Rehab Splint® 24hrs per day puts the connective tissue in a better “position” to heal as it takes the “stretch” off the “over-stretched” connective tissue, making it narrower.

PROTECTING

“Protecting” the connective tissue is about stopping activities that stretch the connective tissue either in a forwards or sideways direction.

Some everyday activities such as bending and picking up the kids or exercises such as swimming, yoga or golf stretch the connective tissue and can make the diastasis larger.

It is never too late to close a diastasis - it takes time but you will see results within 3 weeks. How long it takes to close a diastasis depends on the severity of your diastasis and your commitment to all 4 steps of the program every day.
